چکیده

This paper analyzes the behavior of selfish transmitters under imperfect location information. The scenario considered is that of a wireless network consisting of selfish nodes that are randomly distributed over the network domain according to a known probability distribution, and that are interested in communicating with a common sink node using common radio resources. In this scenario, the wireless nodes do not know the exact locations of their competitors but rather have belief distributions about these locations. Firstly, properties of the packet success probability curve as a function of the node-sink separation are obtained for such networks. Secondly, a monotonicity property for the bestresponse strategies of selfish nodes is identified. That is, for any given strategies of competitors of a node, there exists a critical node-sink separation for this node such that its bestresponse is to transmit when its distance to the sink node is smaller than this critical threshold, and to back off otherwise. Finally, necessary and sufficient conditions for a given strategy profile to be a Nash equilibrium are provided.

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

Cut-off Sampling Design: Take all, Take Some, and Take None

Extended Abstract. Sampling is the process of selecting units (e.g., people, organizations) from a population of interest so that by studying the sample we may fairly generalize our results back to the population from which they were chosen. To draw a sample from the underlying population, a variety of sampling methods can be employed, individually or in combination. Cut-off sampling is a pr...

LPKP: location-based probabilistic key pre-distribution scheme for large-scale wireless sensor networks using graph coloring

Communication security of wireless sensor networks is achieved using cryptographic keys assigned to the nodes. Due to resource constraints in such networks, random key pre-distribution schemes are of high interest. Although in most of these schemes no location information is considered, there are scenarios that location information can be obtained by nodes after their deployment. In this paper,...

Paranoia versus Overconfidence in Imperfect- Information Games

In minimax game-tree search, the min part of the minimax backup rule derives from what we will call the paranoid assumption: the assumption that the opponent will always choose a move that minimizes our payoff and maximizes his/her payoff (or our estimate of the payoff, if we cut off the search before reaching the end of the game). A potential criticism of this assumption is that the opponent m...

On Generalizing the Cut-off Phenomenon for Random Walks on Groups

There has been a lot of recent work on the convergence of random walks on finite or compact groups to their stationary, uniform distribution. Particular emphasis has been placed on the rate of convergence, i.e. on estimates of the number of iterations until the random walk is “close” to uniformity. The best-known examples come from the cardshuffling analyses of Diaconis and co-workers; see [D] ...
